Team vivaNext drives awareness while riding on segways at Markville Mall

Team vivaNext members attracted a lot of attention riding around on segways outside Markville Mall this past Thanksgiving weekend. They were there to talk to people about vivaNext projects and show them how they could WIN the new iPod nano®* in our new contest by texting the word Viva to the number 101010.** We also had a booth inside the mall to make sure we were able to talk to as many people as possible. Take a look at the crowds that gathered around the segways and our booth, and what they had to say about the vivaNext rapidways and subway extensions.

Team vivaNext at the Fair on Thursday.

One of the biggest Markham community events of the year is going on right now on the Markham Fairgrounds. In fact, it is also Canada’s largest four-day agricultural fair.

Over 80,000 people are expected to visit the fairgrounds to watch a demolition derby, monster trucks, an FMX bike demonstration, a tractor and truck pull, a teen talent show, a horse show, live music and more. Even Dora the Explorer is making an appearance on Sunday and will meet and greet the kids.

In addition to all these activities, the vivaNext team will also be there to talk to you about our new rapidways that will get you around York Region’s busiest corridors faster. We will have our booth set up inside with a team ready to answer your questions.

The Fair runs today through Sunday and is located on McCowan north of Major MacKenzie. For more information on how to get there, the price of admission, and the hours, please click here.

For a $2 off adult admission coupon provided through the Markham Fair website, please click here.

We look forward to seeing you at the Markham Fair.

York University students get an A+ for enthusiasm!

Team vivaNext member, Donald, shows students where the new Spadina subway extension will run on a map during the Annual Clubs BBQ last Wednesday.
Team vivaNext member, Donald, shows students where the new Spadina subway extension will run on a map during the Annual Clubs BBQ last Wednesday.

VivaNext teams had such a great time talking to York University students on campus last week about how our new rapidways and subway extensions will make it faster and easier to get to school in the future. Over a two-day period, we had the opportunity to speak to hundreds of students who use rapid transit to commute to class from all over York Region. Boy, did they get excited when they learned that rapidway stops will be near their campus within the next four years, and subway stops right on their campus within the next six years.

On Wednesday, our first day on campus, we were at the Annual Clubs BBQ at Vanier Field. While the line-up for burgers was incredibly long, the one at our vivaNext booth was pretty impressive as well. Then the next day, Thursday, we took part in the Transportation Fair at York Lanes along with other transit organizations, car share companies and cycling networks. It gave York University students a chance to explore a wide range of present and future commuting options – including Viva – all in one convenient location.

Perhaps you were there? If so, we’d love to hear what you think about the vivaNext plan and what impressed you the most.

Back to school with vivaNext

Drop by our booth at York University to learn how our plans will improve your quality of life.

The rapidways and subway extensions will make it faster and easier for people living and working in York Region to get around. This is especially true for current and future students, faculty and staff at York University. Within the next four years, new rapidway stops in dedicated lanes will be near the campus and within the next six years, two subway stops will be right on the campus. Construction will begin on both of these fully-funded projects within the year.

When complete, not only will you save time getting there, but you’ll save on parking. If you’ve already graduated, then these projects will make it faster and easier for you to get to work and connect with other places.

We will be on campus Sept. 16 for the Annual Clubs BBQ. On Sept. 17, we will be there, joined by all of the other public transit providers in the area plus cycling networks and car share companies, for the Transportation Fair.

Here is some more information about the events we’ll be at.

Congratulations to our Grand Prize winner Larisa Roiberg

Contest Grand Prize winner Larisa Roiberg shows off her new iPod touch.

The sun may be in short supply this summer but the sunny smile of our Grand Prize winner, Larisa Roiberg, sure made up for it. The Friday before last, a beaming Larisa stopped by our vivaNext office to pick up her new iPod touch® after her name was randomly selected from all eligible entrants in our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest.

So how did her winning streak begin?

Larisa says she learned about our contest when she stopped by one of our booths at the mall to learn more about vivaNext projects. While there, the vivaNext team told her how much fun it was to complete our interactive story, so she decided to go online and give it a try when she got home. And wow, is she glad she did.

During the four weeks that our contest ran, about a thousand people submitted entries that showed us what their picture perfect summer looks like. Perhaps you were one of them, and maybe you were even one of the daily prize winners?

If not, don’t worry because you’ll soon have plenty of other chances to win during our upcoming fall and winter contests. The prizes will be just as exciting so be sure to watch for news about them here, on Twitter and at vivaNext.com.

Thanks for making our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest such a success.

In the past few weeks, about a thousand people visited vivaNext.com to enter our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest, which ended this past Friday, July 31, 2009. Entrants had a lot of fun using our interactive story to show us why summer’s the best and what their picture perfect summer looks like. On the other hand, we had a lot of fun telling them how vivaNext is the next best thing to summer because it will make it faster and easier for them to get to their favourite summer activities.

Each day during the contest period, one lucky entrant was randomly selected in our daily prize draw to win cool summer gear like water bottles, Canada’s Wonderland® passes, movie tickets, laptop bags and YRT\Viva two-zone passes. In all, 26 daily prizes were awarded.

Then this past Friday, the last day of our contest, we selected the final daily winner. We are now just getting ready to select the lucky winner of our Grand Prize – a handy iPod touch®. With this new iPod touch®, our Grand Prize winner will easily be able to get up-to-date vivaNext construction and project information wirelessly.

Thanks to everyone who entered our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest and made it such a success. Please be sure to visit vivaNext.com often for project updates and to see who won the Grand Prize.
