Yonge North Subway Extension moves another step forward
Yesterday, Metrolinx released the Yonge North Subway Extension Initial Business Case, moving the project forward to the next stage of preliminary engineering and design. This is another big milestone for the Province, York Region, the cities of Toronto, Markham, Richmond Hill, and Vaughan bringing us another step closer to getting shovels in the ground for this critical project! Read more about this in statements from the Chair of York Region and the Chair of the York Region Rapid Transit Corporation.
The Initial Business Case for the Yonge North Subway Extension includes a review of technical and costing alternatives for three alignment options, various tunnel types and different station combinations for the subway. It includes a proposed new alignment, which Metrolinx is recommending to move forward in the design process, based on key transit benefits, the most number of stations, within the $5.6 billion budget. The target completion date is 2029-30.
