geotechnical testing on Royal Orchard in Markham

Starting tomorrow, crews will be conducting geotechnical testing on Royal Orchard Boulevard in Markham as part of the preliminary planning, design and engineering [PDE] phase for the proposed Yonge Subway Extension. During the PDE phase, work will take place at various locations along Yonge Street and some side streets from Finch Avenue to Highway 7. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Thursday, April 18, for approximately two weeks
work hours*: 7am–7pm
work location*: On Royal Orchard Boulevard, just east of Yonge Street

what you need to know:

  • Crews will use a drill rig to bore holes and extract soil samples. The roadway will be restored at the end of each work day.
  • During work hours, the curb lane on Royal Orchard, just east of Yonge will be temporarily closed through the work area.
  • There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through the work zone.
