year in review >> the rapidway on Yonge Street in Newmarket is open for service!

January 31, 2020

Viva is now running along the Yonge Street rapidway, picking up and dropping off passengers at three new vivastation platforms at Mulock Drive, Eagle Street, and Davis Drive.

The rapidway on Yonge links to the existing rapidway on Davis Drive and is transforming the way people get around Newmarket and beyond. Sidewalks, dedicated left-turn signals, and upgraded infrastructure will serve the needs of pedestrians, transit riders, businesses and drivers for generations to come.

2019 milestones

  • Final paving of Yonge, including the red rapidway. Yonge is now open to two lanes of traffic in each direction, and the rapidway is in-service.
  • All intersections along Yonge from Savage Road / Sawmill Valley Drive to Davis Drive have been activated and are in their final configuration. Dedicated left-turn lanes are easing the flow of traffic, and allowing for U-turns to get you to your mid-block destinations.
  • The rapidway opened for service on Sunday, January 5, 2020!

what's ahead for this year

In addition, you'll also see deficiency and warranty work to make sure that the end product meets the requirements we set out to build. That's why you'll see work activity in the first couple of years after infrastructure projects are done.
